14 simple ways to follow up and build a relationship with your members

All these simple ways apply the WELP strategy in follow up i.e. Word, Encouragement, Love, Prayer. Any person at the receiving end will experience all these

You do not have to use one strategy all the time. Mix it up. They all have a powerful effect of building solid spiritual relationships. For any new person, this is a good sequence to follow as you build a spiritual life establishing relationship with the person.

1. SONGS

Pick a song you are enjoying which speaks to you so much and send it to the person with a simple message.

2. Encouraging Verse and Message Via Whatsapp

Ask the Holy Spirit what verse will speak to your sheep today. Pick a verse of encouragement and explain it to them. The psalms can be encouraging
E.g. This morning I woke up and I was thinking about you and praying for you. This is the word God gave me more for you. Psalm 34:6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The Lord will deliver you from any troubles in Jesus name. He is your deliverer and savior

3. Voice Message

Using whatsapp, or your phone recording tool, you can record a powerful personal prayer for them.

E.g.

4. Encouraging Verse And Message Via Text Message

This time do not use whatsapp but actual text message and share an encouraging verse with them. Always let them know you are thinking about them and praying for them in every message
E.g. This morning I woke up and I was thinking about you and praying for you. This is the word God gave me more for you. 5. HOW CAN I PRAY FOR YOU?

Pick a day and ask the person how you can pray for them this week? It’s a way to get what’s on the heart of someone. When someone shares something intimate with you, it’s a way of drawing each other close.
E.g. This week the Lord has laid it on my heart to pray for you specially. How can I pray for you this week or any special topic you want me to join you in prayer for?

6. AFFIRM THEIR EFFORTS

Pick a day and let them know how important their efforts are to you.
E.g. Hello …, I wanted to thank you for all the wonderful things you do to help the church. I know many times people don’t notice but I’m very grateful. It’s a blessing to get such help. You will never lose your reward in Jesus name.

7. AFFIRM THEIR LOYALTY

Pick a day and let them know how grateful you are for their faithfulness in sticking around you. People have a lot of options these days on who they choose to listen to or how they choose to spend their time and they still choose to come for yours.
E.g. Hello …, Thanks for your loyalty. Thanks for sticking around and making your church your home. It’s my prayer that every divine helper and connector important for your life, you will find in this church family in Jesus name.

8. AFFIRM THEIR DIFFERENCE

Pick a day and let them know how different they are from everyone else. This complement can be with them for a very long time. You can get some words to use here: https://www.vocabulary.com/lists/238935
E.g. I was just thinking about you and noticed an amazing a heart God has given you. You are a very empathetic person and you care a lot about how people feel and always understand things from their point of view. Continue doing that. This heart will take you places.

9. Sermon message

Pick a sermon possibly a service they missed or you believe they will learn from so much and send it to them.
E.g. I was watching this sermon and it blessed me so much. I thought of you so wanted to share it with you also. Enjoy it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_x2XBVTE8M

10. Chats

Pick a day and actually kickoff a whatsapp/text message chat with the person. This usually can be longer. The goal is to learn more about them and so it’s a lot of asking questions about their life, sharing yours and then encouraging as you go along

11. Phone Call

Pick a day and actually make a call to chat with the person. Checking on them, asking questions, encouraging them and praying for them.

12. Give A Gift

Pick a day and just send a gift. It doesn’t need to be expensive but barely do people send gifts. You can send the person a simple $10 gift card or you go with the person to grab fast food. A simple gift opens amazing relationship doors. Once again, it need not be anything expensive. The power is in the thoughtfulness

13. VISIT VIA ZOOM

Pick a day and schedule sometime to talk to the person on zoom. This is powerful because you see each other on video and it’s a higher dimension to an over the phone conversation. Spiritual impartation happens when people see each other.

14. Physical Visit

The assumption is that the person is in the same city as you. Pick a day and schedule a physical visit. Get to know where the person lives. Pray over the place. Spend some time there. Anoint them. Share an encouraging scripture with them. Physical visits can have permanent impacts

This sequence and a mixture of tactics will make sure that each member is not left behind
